National Nurses Week: Creativity

The Glen is celebrating #NationalNursesWeek by recognizing the attributes that have enabled nurses at The Glen to go above and beyond in their jobs!

Characteristics such as respect, empathy, compassion, persistence, flexibility and creativity are just some of the amazing qualities that elevate the impact made by nurses who work at The Glen.

Each day, we’ll share a story about nurses who have displayed one of these traits during their time at The Glen.

Day Two: CREATIVITY

There are many different ways nurses care for and serve the residents in retirement communities. But many of the nurses at The Glen go above and beyond. As The Glen focuses on the five areas of wellness – emotional, physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual – nurses can often get creative in finding ways to help residents in more ways than just one.

One nurse applied a few of those areas of wellness to her idea that helped a resident with dementia. With the help of the resident’s family, the nurse created a photo album for the resident to look back at pictures from the past and identify faces of loved ones.

This same nurse led a Bible study for residents, bringing that option to them when they might not be able to get out to go to church or attend services that are held on campus at The Glen’s chapel. She also assembled residents to form a choir, leading them in practices, and then performing for others. Can you tell our nurses go above and beyond for the residents at The Glen?

Nurses who have a creative outlook can help bring a smile to a resident’s face in unique and individualized ways.
