Enrichment series invades The Glen

A series of events on a variety of topics including music, dance, gardening — even how to take a selfie — will be held at The Glen Retirement System each month from March to October.

CATS: Events on Culture, Arts, Technology and Science, presented by The Paul and Betty McDonald Foundation, is set at The Glen each year and brings a diverse group of scholars, leaders and artists to residents and the Shreveport-Bossier City community. Each of the events will provide insight and illumination into critical issues that affect and inspire people of all ages, especially those who live in Northwest Louisiana.

A jazz trio with the Shreveport Symphony performs during the 2019 CATS series.

“Each CATS event brings enrichment to its audience and starts a conversation between The Glen’s residents and members of the community,” CEO and President Debra Williams said. “The Paul and Betty McDonald Foundation furthers our mission to bring exciting and interesting events that not only entertain, but educate and enrich, the lives of seniors and the public.”

CATS events will be held at 3 p.m. each month at The Glen Retirement System, 403 East Flournoy Lucas Road, in Shreveport. The events are no charge and open to the public; however, space is limited. The series kicked off Tuesday, March 19, with a performance by a jazz trio with the Shreveport Symphony.

“We have teamed up with the Shreveport Symphony, the Shreveport Opera and other local scholars and speakers to provide high-quality programming to residents,” Williams said.

This year’s schedule includes the following highlights:

April 16: Restoring clocks
May 21: Growing and tasting tomatoes
June 18: Astronomy 101
July 16: Dance performance
Aug. 20: Health benefits of essential oils
